Using sports as a tool for development, social Innovation and empowerment, for the lgbtqia+ community and bpoc folks

Melanin Skate Gals & Pals is an initiative by Skate Gals & Pals using sport as a tool for development, social innovation and empowerment, we encourage adults from marginalised communities to be more active and make use of their local environment, whilst connecting to a global prominent skate community. We cater for the needs of those who are often excluded from sport activities such as marginalised genders, the LGBTQIA+ community and Black and other People Of Colour.

We create a safe space environment, where our beneficiaries can take part in physical activities and community building away from harassment, discrimination, marginalisation, racism, sexism and queer and transphobia.

We provide a variety of activities catered to the needs of our communities: Weekly skate meet-up sessions, creative and holistic workshops and skate trips away for BPOC adults.

The documentary traces our transformative week-long trip to Morocco. Guided by values of mutual aid, knowledge sharing, and community-building, we came together to break bread and barriers, fostering cross-cultural connections through a shared love for skateboarding, surfing and music, all while creating space for rest and play.

We engaged with local Moroccan communities and uplifted one another through art, creativity and sport, sharing stories and experiences which transcend borders. Huge shout out to the community for their trust and for lending us lifelong lessons.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Our mission is personal; we are a collective supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals of marginalised genders, People of Colour (POC) and children in the most deprived areas of London. Our project focuses on community building and strengthening, social advocacy, physical and mental wellbeing.

At the core of SGP’s values, we focus on "Sport for All" by addressing the Ethnicity Sport Gap, tackling the physical and well-being gaps for many members of the QTBPOC community and socio-economically disadvantaged minors.

Since March 2021, we provided activities for over 1,500 adults and children in London. Through our work we reached 10,000 individuals worldwide and create a safe skating community virtually and in-person.
