We Skate London program in partnerships with Young Hackney Council and Poplar HARCA housing Association, Tower Hamlets Council.

A skate program aiming at bring skateboarding to young girls in deprived areas. Funded by the “Roll Model” fund by The Good Push and Women Win in 2021 and 2022. More information

  • Teaching girls to exist beyond gender boundaries. Encouraging self-expression and individuality. Healthy risk taking, skateboarding needs commitment, and getting over our own fears, which is a skill that can applied to everyday life. One parent stated that she wishes to see her 3 young girls doing more traditionally male related activities.

  • Young people, especially young girls are not getting the required amount of exercise per day due to lack of availability of affordable sport and physical activities. Addressing the Ethnicity Sport Gap, due to deep-rooted inequalities, people from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic backgrounds are far less likely to be physically active states a 2021 report by Sport England. Obesity: 1 out 4 kids from 8 to 12 years in Tower Hamlets are obese.

  • Patience, focus, practice, consistency to progress, which are skills that are valuable to navigate everyday life and develop healthy coping mechanisms to life challenges.
